Equitom, the world-renowned Belgian horse clinic, is entering into a partnership with investor Bencis Capital Partners. Since its foundation in 2002, Equitom has become a leading European player in the complex veterinary treatment of horses, with clients from more than 60 countries. The collaboration with Bencis means the dream of national and international expansion has come true for Equitom’s founder, horse surgeon Dr. Tom Mariën.
Belgium’s leading role
In Europe, Belgium plays a leading role in the trade in horses and the organisation of international competitions. Further professionalization of the equine sector, including in equine medicine and equine clinics, will be of considerable importance to efforts to keep playing this role.
Tom Mariën (Founder & CEO of Equitom): “This cooperation is unique in the Belgian market, and allows us to maximize our enormous growth potential. With Bencis now on the scene, the company is getting not only a strong and solid financial partner who will allow us to continue investing in the most modern veterinary equipment, but also a strategic partner so we can bring about the expansion we’re after. Within the Equine Care Group, I will fulfill the role of CEO and Head of the Surgery Department. I’m surrounded by a team of equine veterinarians who are among the very best there are. Together, our 50-strong team is at the heart of Equitom’s success story. I’m confident that this partnership and this investment in Equitom’s growth will lead to further improvements in equine veterinary care and in service to our customers.”
“Symbol of top quality”
Robert Falk (Partner at Bencis) and Matthias Vermeersch (Managing Director at Bencis): “We’re extremely pleased with this partnership, and proud to be part of Equitom’s future. Under the inspiring leadership of Tom Mariën, Equitom has evolved in the space of 20 years to become a worldwide-renowned symbol of top quality and service in the field of equine medicine. We will work together as a team to build on Equitom’s solid foundation. Besides organic growth through the expansion of the clinic in Lummen, we also have specific plans to open new clinics in both Belgium and the surrounding countries. In addition, we will also be having discussions about strengthening the Equine Care Group through acquisitions.”
First step towards expansion
The first step towards expanding the Equine Care Group is the collaboration with veterinarian Frederik Bruyninx. Frederik is the official veterinarian for the Belgian national jumping team and for a large number of renowned stables in Belgium and surrounding countries. He has built up years of experience in, and extensive knowledge of, the management and inspection of top sport horses, and is thus a valuable addition to our group.
